Notice published in terms of Regulation 18(1) of the Regulations for the Registration of Private Higher Education Institutions, 2016 read with Sections 62(1) and 63(a) and (b) of the Higher Education Act, 1997

I, Dr Nkosinathi Sishi, Director-General of the Department of Higher Education and Training and the Registrar of Private Higher Education Institutions, hereby publish in terms of Regulation 18(1) of the Regulations for the Registration of Private Higher Education Institutions, 2016  read with sections 62(1) and 63(a) and (b) of the Higher Education Act, 1997 (Act No. 101 of 1997), my decision to issue a Notice to Cancel the registration of Empilweni Education (Pty) Ltd as a registered private higher education institutions since it has failed to submit Annexures N, Q, T, T1, T2 and U, for the 2024 annual report, as required by Section 57(2)(b) of the Act read with the Regulation 27(1)(i)(ii), and as a consequence, it has failed to discharge the responsibilities of a private higher education institution as contemplated in Chapter 6 of the Regulations. Empilweni Education (Pty) Ltd has also ceased to meet the eligibility criteria for registration as stipulated under section 1 of the Act since it has not enrolled students on its higher education programme since 2021.
