Labour Relations Act, 1995 (Act No. 66 of 1995)

The parties agreed that severance pay was legislated for, and in terms of the Labour Relations Act, the circumstances giving rise to the retrenchment should be considered when considering the amount of severance to be paid.

It therefore agreed that the Sector would not negotiate a common severance package for the Petroleum Sector, but rather both parties commit to consult and engage effectively at · the company/ plant level as and when the need arises.
